About Me

Meet Consciously Clean Mama!

I began my clean living journey many years ago. My first introduction was actually in college when my brother asked me if I knew what was in the milk I was drinking. He informed me about the potential of added hormones in my milk. I did some research and realized that most of our dairy and meat products in the U.S. are pumped full of unneeded hormones. From that time on, I did what I could to afford organic milk that I could only find at the Whole Foods which was much farther off campus than the local grocery store.

Fast forward a few years, I began having a lot of gastrointestinal issues. After a few rounds of tests, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease. It revolutionized not only how I ate food, but how I bought and looked at food. For the first time, I was faced with looking at the labels on everything I ate. I learned that a lot of the foods I was purchasing prior to my diagnosis, had ingredients I could not pronounce and had no idea if they could be gluten free. Also, I find out that there are loop holes and sometimes brands do not always have to list certain ingredient. It changed my approach to eating less processed foods, and more whole, real foods.

Fast forward a few more years, and I suffered a miscarriage. As devastating as it was, I wanted to prepare my body the best I could to become pregnant and have a successful pregnancy. I worked on doing things to increase my egg quality. Something I learned was there is significant data to suggest a class of chemicals called endocrine disruptors may influence egg quality, as well as infertility and other hormonal issues. These chemicals including BPA, parabens and phthalates among others I found were in many of my household and personal care products. I’ve slowly worked hard to eliminate these from my environment.

These experiences have led to my current passion for clean living and sharing tips I’ve learned along the way with all of you. They also led to my position to advocate for change in the personal care industry. After wanting to eliminate harmful chemicals in my own home, I learned that our government does very little to protect us. There are very few ingredients banned in products, no product testing required and no recall power. I wanted to be part of the change for better which is why I partnered with clean beauty brand, Beautycounter. Part of my work with them is to help pass more health protective legislation.

I am also a full-time Nurse Practitioner. I live in Philadelphia with my husband, son and dog Stella. When I have time, I love cooking, baking, spinning and yoga. I love taking long walks with my family.
